Academic Philosophy
By Duncan McGinnis, Academic Director
Our goal is to challenge each student to work at his or her potential. If a student struggles academically, we create a situation to meet those needs without minimizing his or her abilities. We provide study buddies, tutoring and opportunities on the weekends for extra support. Students who do well academically are presented with extra opportunities to develop their skills and then share them with their fellow students who may need help.
When the students begin to acquire good study skills and work consistently, they feel a sense of pride in their accomplishment and also the accomplishments of their peers - perhaps for the first time in years.
Of course, school is harder for some students. We work hard at creating an atmosphere that does not overlook their needs but encourage them, only and always, to do their very best. Our experience has shown us that in such an environment, students begin to exert themselves academically and make progress in ways they never thought possible. From the depths of hopelessness and failure come new dreams, new hopes, new visions, and a future bright with purpose and fulfillment.
