Alumni Services

The EXCEL Academy of Texas therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens understands that transitioning out of our program can be a time of great anxiety for students and families. That is why we are one of the few programs available that has a defined Transition and Aftercare Support program, as well as a unique Alumni Services program.

During a student's stay with us, we develop goals that reflect the intentions of where the student wants to go next. For many, home or college will be the next step after EXCEL. As a student progresses through our Level System, focused home visits are granted. These visits help internalize gains made at EXCEL and offer the student and family the opportunity to practice enhanced communication skills. As a student nears graduation or their transition date, Relapse Prevention groups are required. These groups, based on a nationally recognized program, help students identify their triggers for relapse and solidify the knowledge and tools needed to deal with tough situations.

At EXCEL Academy of Texas, each student leaves our school with a firm Sobriety Plan, which includes specific and individualized aftercare support systems such as family support, community-based resources like AA and NA meetings, and for some, appointments for continued therapeutic services.

Additionally, as a program of Aspen Education Group, EXCEL Academy of Texas offers a unique way for students and parents to stay connected to the program even after a student leaves. The EXCEL Alumni Services program includes 6 months of post-EXCEL support, including weekly phone calls, parent-specific pod casts, and Web-based tools and resources such as a forum for talking with other parents. Additionally, we have an annual Alumni Retreat where former students can come back to campus for a day of activities. Finally, a quarterly newsletter is sent to all students and families to provide ongoing information and support.
