Short-term Intervention and Therapeutic Wilderness Programs
As a Sober Academy modeled Therapeutic Boarding School, EXCEL Academy of Texas needs to ensure our students are appropriately placed with us and are in the frame of mind to work our relational, 12 step based program. To that end, many of our students may be recommended to first complete a wilderness program or other short-term intervention whereby they may receive a full range of psychological, substance abuse and educational testing and assessments, participate in self-esteem building activities, and begin to identify and address some of the issues that have led to their family's decision to send them to a residential school. These pre-requisites for many of our students help them get into a "treatment ready" state and therefore make the most out of EXCEL Academy of Texas experience. Students who are destined for EXCEL may first be recommended to attend either a wilderness program or drug/alcohol treatment facility and then will be transferred to EXCEL Academy of Texas directly.
