Therapeutic Support

EXCEL Academy employs master's level therapists who each lead a treatment team consisting of direct care, academic, and clinical staff.

At EXCEL Academy of Texas therapeutic boarding school for teens our primary focus is to help students address their substance abuse issues and any co-occurring disorders. Our approach is integrative, utilizing the psychotherapy models of twelve step recovery, Motivational Interviewing, Prochaska and DiClemente's Stages of Change™, along with our primarily cognitive-behavioral therapies. We offer broad-based clinical services that enable our adolescents to become motivated to maintain substance abstinence and work through the issues that underlie their substance use. We provide daily on-campus 12 Step meetings, as well as off-campus meetings for students who have earned the privilege. Our integrated and performance based level system is based on all of these principles and offers students additional privileges as they internalize and demonstrate positive change.

Additionally, we encourage parents and other family members to utilize community based support, such as Al-Anon. As our student progress through our performance based level system, parents are also 'prescribed' tasks and assigned a level that coincides and is linked to their son or daughter's progress. We have found that family involvement in our program and twelve step programs provides motivation and support for adolescents in need of changing negative behaviors.
